Valpo Velvet Ice Cream in Valparaiso

New to Valpo and have developed a Valpo Velvet addiction. It's probably the place I've been most since I moved here. Daily vegan sorbet options that will knock your socks off! If you are lucky enough to be there on a day when they have the vegan chocolate mint nice cream- DO IT!

My family loves this place! Great local shop with a ton of charm and wonderful ice cream! Only Negative is the last couple times I brought my family there to hang out and enjoy some delicious ice cream (!!!), There wasn't seating available... Not a huge deal but still a little disappointing

Great hometown ice cream shop. Lots of flavors of ice cream plus sorbet, frozen yogurt and sherbet.

I worked there in 1979 with girlfriend and a couple buddies from high school. It was great to hear the Browns still run it!! I missed the big dining room they had. We could fit a ton of kids in there after a football game Friday nights ,, we would get the valpo viking sunday!!

Wow! We (me and 2 kids 10 + 12) for lunch... Food was good! The place is charming!

Amazing selection! Froyo and sorbet for lighter and dairy-free selections. We had prompt and friendly service and the outside seating was clean and welcoming. We'll be back!

It may look like little but they have tons of variety when it comes to frozen treats and even serve lunch sandwiches/soups. The location in downtown valpo is great and you can enjoy a walk around downtown or at one of their outdoor patio tables. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid and now I bring my own family. They super pack their pints/tubs if you want to take some to-go, and they always have a new delicious seasonal flavor. BUT, I’m the adult that still eats bubblegum ice cream every single visit and Valpo Velvet has the BEST! It has the perfect proportion of gum vs ice cream distributed in every bite. Their shop is clean and the staff moves quickly, always with a smile. I’m happy to see they have expanded into local grocery stores, but I’ll still drive 30-45 minutes to stop by the actual shop for the inviting atmosphere of this quaint shop in downtown valpo.

Legit ice cream shop with a ton of different flavors. Some of the best ice cream I've ever ate. Outside of the ice cream, they serve shakes, malts, floats, and even some sandwiches like grilled cheese. I've seen pints of ice cream inside of local grocery store such a strack & van til but never tried the ice creams until today and I must say I'm a fan and I will be going back.

Drove from Chicago to stock up on their vanilla bean half gallons. The gals packed up several to go for me in dry ice for my trip home. The dry ice was actually more expensive than the ice cream, but everything was well wrapped and I am able to enjoy at home for the next few months. Totally worth the trip!

This place is soooo good! On top of fabulous ice cream, they have a great food menu which changes occasionally and sometimes follows a certain theme. The staff and owners are super-friendly and provide service with a smile every time!

Everyone was so friendly and we came close to closing time. Great selection and variety. The ice cream is delicious and I used to work in an ice cream shop and have high standards! I haven’t tried the food yet, but look forward to it next time.

While visiting Valpo, I found this interesting concept and decided to give it a shot with my family. It was okay, and the ice cream was good, but they did overcharge me and seemed careless about that fact when I made the claim and I definitely think there's an opportunity to improve the experience.

The cinnamon was good but the lemon and pineapple sherbert was to kill for.

I asked for three scoops of three different flavors. The menu says $6.50 on the wall. I noticed immediately that it didn't seem like three scoops of ice cream and it rang up as $4.47. I asked about it, and she snidely replied "it's all sold by weight." Okay...well...not what the menu says. Got home and I got a small amount of only two scoops of what I asked. Poor attitude among staff and menu prices are irrelevant to how they actually charge you.

Love the atmosphere of the place.. who doesn't like ice cream? The guy behind the counter was dull and hardly answered if talked to an for it just being us took quite a while but Ice Cream was good and all the decor was interesting to look at.

Gluten free bread was very good. Icecream delicious, creative flavors and the lemon sorbet refreshing.

We chose Valpo Velvet to help us with our gender reveal for our first baby. They were so eager and happy to help us with the surprise. The customer service is fantastic and our ice cream was delicious as well!

I love supporting local businesses and the ice cream is the best I have ever had anywhere!! Don't forget to grab some lunch while you are there, I love the California crunch salad. Yummy!

More of a well rounded selection than most ice cream shops in the area.

Many different flavors of ice cream, shakes, and floats. Plus they have other food and classic sodas.

YUM. Friendly, fun place with great menu items and their own ice cream. Worth a trip!

Local Ice-cream Company... Good, would not call it my favorite though.
